Working around heavy machinery is a hazard by itself, even worse when working directly with one. That was the case for this worker who was using a grinder and grinding wheel. Luckily this worker was wearing the HeatArmor® 5050 when the grinding wheel suddenly snapped off and came in contact with their hand, leaving only a minor injury instead of a major recordable.
The issue
An employee at Delta Star Inc. was working with a grinder that had an output of 12,000 RPM and a grinding wheel that had a capacity of 13,300 RPM when the grinder wheel snapped off mid-use.
The grinder guard shot the broken wheel components into the employee’s right index finger with tremendous force, but after the doctor's visit, the employee was released to full duty.
The solution
Luckily, the worker was wearing our HeatArmor® 5050, and the glove did its job. The broken wheel only penetrated the outer leather layer of the glove, stopping at the remaining protective layers. This caused a minor injury instead of a major recordable.
The HeatArmor® 5050 features HeatHide® technology, goatskin leather reinforcements, and an interior Aramid liner for 360° ANSI/ ISEA A6 cut protection.
The result
Because of the significant injury that was prevented, Delta Star Inc. decided to outfit more of their workers in the 5050 to help ensure higher levels of safety in the workplace.
