Injuries to the hand and fingers are extremely common in construction. Not only does this harm the worker, but medical costs and disability claims can escalate rapidly. Fortunately, most hand injuries are preventable – that’s where proper glove use comes in.
See how this construction company avoided a major injury by switching to HexArmor’s Helix® Core 3012 – and only had one recordable after over one million man-hours of wearing HexArmor® gloves.
The problem
A large construction company was dealing with various hand-related injuries. Many were cuts and punctures, but the majority of injuries were smash and pinch-related.
The solution
After consulting with HexArmor,® the Helix® Core 3012 was chosen due to the combination of level 2 impact protection without compromising dexterity, as well as 360° A5-level cut protection and high comfort.
The result
Once workers started wearing the gloves, they were able to avoid various potential recordable injuries such as this one:
While an employee was installing boards, the action of swinging a hammer caused the other hand to slip directly in front of the hammer’s path and up against a metal beam. The hammer struck the person’s pinky, which was pinched between the hammer and metal.
Fortunately, they were wearing the Helix® Core 3012 and their finger was saved from massive injury due to the back-of-hand impact protection.
“I believe if it was not for the impact on the HexArmor gloves, our colleague could have broken off the tip of his pinky or at the bare minimum split his pinky wide open.” – Onsite Safety Manager
And after over one million man-hours of workers wearing HexArmor® gloves, the company only had one recordable – an almost unbelievable achievement.
