Due to the difficult nature of mining work, hand protection is critical due to the varied applications each worker performs. See how HexArmor’s Chrome SLT® cold weather 4064 helped keep a worker’s hand safe, turning what could have been a recordable injury into a near miss.
The problem
An employee was moving a piece of angle iron out of a large ironworker shear when his hand came in contact with the cut end of the iron.
The solution
Luckily, the employee was wearing HexArmor’s Chrome SLT® 4064 gloves. The leather was cut, but the inner cut-resistant liner stayed intact – the employee’s hand was not cut.
The Chrome SLT® 4064 was designed with a 360-degree C100 Thinsulate™ interior liner to keep hands warm, while a goatskin leather palm delivers a traditional style of comfort. Inside, an HPPE blend liner provides level A4 cut resistance.
The result
The safety manager at the company used this incident as a lesson to talk about two best practices:
- Make sure to keep hands hazards away from sharp objects/edges to avoid direct contact with hazards, and
- Always wear the proper hand protection.
"Another perfect example of why better protection equates to fewer injuries." - Safety manager
